Abstract

The process of vacuum powder zincification was carried out on nodular cast iron at different temperature. The coating morphology, thickness, microhardness and adhesion were characterized by means of metallographic microscope, microhardness tester and scratch tester. The results show that the zinc coating formed on the substrate is composed of Zn-Fe intermetallic compound, which is continuous, dense and uniform strip. When the sherardizing temperature range is 380~420℃,the micro morphology of the coating changes little, but the surface quality, thickness, hardness and adhesion of the coating change with the temperature increasing. The surface quality, thickness, hardness and bonding force of the zinc coating increase with the increase of temperature. But when the temperature exceeds 410℃,a large number of microcracks appear in the coating layer, which reduces the quality of the coating.
