Abstract

The low hardness and poor wear resistance of titanium alloys can be improved by preparing tungsten carbide(WC)coatings on their surfaces.The existence of WC coatings renders titanium alloys with a nice wear resistance,which delays their work lifetime under friction conditions.Laser modification technology can make the metallurgical binding between substance materials and coatings,facilitating the further enhancement on the adhesion and compactness of WC coatings.In this paper,the laser cladding,laser remelting and in situ laser assisted spraying will be introduced,which involves the corresponding manufacture characteristics,coatings performances and development trends for the preparation of WC coatings.It is expected to provide inspiration and reference for the optimization and improvement on preparing WC coatings in the future.
